Immunohistochemical staining for Vimentin is also characteristic of sarcomas (of neural, muscle and fibroblast origin) compared to carcinomas which are generally negative. Melanomas, lymphomas and vascular tumors may all stain for Vimentin.

Vimentin is a common immunostain. It marks most soft tissue lesions and malignant melanoma. It is usually negative in carcinomas. Vimentin is found in all types of sarcomas and lymphomas. Positive staining for vimentin is seen in most cells of fibrosarcomas, liposarcomas, malignant fibrous histocytomas, angiosarcomas, chondrosarcomas and lymphomas. All melanomas and Schwannomas are strongly vimentin-positive.

Cite Very often I see vimentin immunohistochemical stain ordered on spindle cell tumors by other pathologists. This video explains the proper use and interpretati Vimentin is one of the 5 major intermediate filaments found in cells (cytokeratin, vimentin, neurofilament, desmin, and glial fibrillary acid protein [GFAP]). It was classically thought to be limited to mesenchymal cells only, and in the early days of immunohistochemistry, it was thought to be a specific marker for sarcomas and other mesenchymal neoplasms.

We retrospectively reviewed the pathology archives in our institution for all specimens with vimentin stain between 2000 and 2016. The cases were classified into epithelial, hematolymphoid, melanocytic, mesenchymal, and unclassified groups, and the staining results were categorized as positive, negative, or unknown, based on the pathology report. CD99, a marker for MIC-2, reacts with normal Sertoli cells and granulosa cells.

Three alcohol-fixed lung cancers and two blocks of alcohol-fixed pleura failed to stain for vimentin. By contrast, all mesotheliomas and carcinomas, whether alcohol or formalin fixed, as well as sections of pleura, were strongly positive when stained with anticytokeratin antibody 35 beta H11. Vimentin Staining in Mouse 3T3 Fiboplasts Fluorescence staining techniques are frequently used in biological and medical research for diagnosis due to their high specificity and sensitivity. Lamps are widely used, however, these light sources have several drawbacks.

Vimentin stains virtually all spindle cell neoplasms—mesenchymal spindle cell neoplasms and sarcomatoid carcinomas included. However, vimentin stains a subset of carcinomas regularly and to a significant degree, and this may be useful in the context of a …

Purpose: Vimentin is an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) biomarker and intermediate filament protein that functions during cell migration to maintain structure and motility. Despite the abundance of clinical data linking vimentin to poor patient outcome, it is unclear if vimentin is required for metastasis or is a correlative biomarker. We developed a novel genetically engineered

Melanomas, lymphomas and vascular tumors may all stain for Vimentin. Vimentin is a fairly widespread cytoskeletal component encoding for intermediate filaments. It can be used as a target for immunohistochemistry to help characterize numerous tissues and tumors. 2020-09-29 BioTracker™ TiY Vimentin Live Cell Dye Live cell imaging probe for identifying tumor initiating cells (TICs) in a variety of epithelial cancers, including lung cancer.

It … Vimentin Antibody Staining Protocol for Immunohistochemistry. Description: Vimentin is an intermediate filament that is ubiquitously expressed in mesenchymal cells such as fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, and endothelium. Vimentin is useful as part of an antibody panel for differential diagnostic purposes, such as differentiating soft tissue Vimentin Antibody Staining Protocol for Immunohistochemistry. Description: This monoclonal antibody reacts with the intermediate filament protein vimentin present in cells of mesenchymal origin. Broad interspecies cross-reactivity has been observed with human, rat, and chicken vimentin. No reaction with other closely related intermediate filament Vimentin is a good candidate but it can stain other types of cells too.
